Prost!
It’s that time of the year again. One of my favorite times of the year. What I consider to be the start of the holiday season. No, I’m not talking about that annual exercise in teaching kids to beg for sugar, aka Halloween …
It’s the start of Oktoberfest!!! I love Oktoberfest because it’s joyful and wholesome — Bavarian oom-pah music, games, food, and beer(!) are just fun! We went on Sunday to The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, and it’s almost become an annual tradition to go to their Oktoberfest festivities. Kids are free so it’s a great family outing. What could be better than watching lederhosen-clad Germans slap dancing, chopping logs, and yodeling, while you are chomping down a tasty brat and imbibing 20 oz of Weissbier? Not to mention the awesome oom-pah band playing polka yacht rock (Weird Al would be proud), the Fast Food Song (McDonald’s, McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Pizza Hut) and of course, the Chicken Dance. I actually hate the Chicken Dance, but it’s fun for the kids, and after a liter or two of Kostritzer, what the heck?
Also a great time are the Oktoberfest celebrations at Old World Huntington Beach and up in Big Bear Lake. However, we enjoy The Phoenix Club’s Oktoberfest the most, because it’s more spacious. Can’t wait to go again!
